What data we collect

Server logs

Like all websites, our hosting provider (Vercel, Inc., USA) automatically records basic access logs — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time of visit. These logs are retained for a short period for security and debugging purposes and are not used to build user profiles. Vercel's processing is governed by their Privacy Policy.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. Data is aggregated and anonymous — no individual user profiles are built.

Advertising

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense(Google LLC, USA). Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads based on your interests and previous browsing activity. For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, Google's Consent Management Platform (CMP) will ask for your consent before any personalised advertising cookies are set. If you do not consent, you may still see non-personalised ads. Google's data processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Game accounts & saves (the Colony Simulator)

The simulator at /play can be tried without an account, but guest sessions are temporary and are not stored in your browser. Colony save and load require a signed-in account.

If you choose to sign in to sync your colony across devices, we use Supabase(Supabase, Inc., USA) to store: your email address (or the identity provided by GitHub/Discord if you use social sign-in), a random user ID, and your game save (board layout, resources, buildings — no personal information). This data is used solely to let you continue your game and is protected so only your own account can read it. You can delete your save in the game settings, and you can request full account deletion by emailing us. Supabase's processing is governed by their Privacy Policy.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Server security logs — necessary to operate the site safely.
• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Anonymous analytics — understanding aggregate site usage.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Personalised advertising cookies — only placed after you consent via the Google CMP.
• Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): Game account & cloud saves — processing your email and save data is necessary to provide the sync feature you request by signing in.

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. This site uses cookies for hosting, analytics, and — with your consent — personalised advertising.

Managing cookies

EEA, UK, and Swiss users can change or withdraw their advertising consent at any time via the Google consent banner. All users can block or delete cookies via their browser settings. Refusing cookies does not affect access to the knowledge base — all content remains freely accessible.

Third-party services

• Vercel, Inc. (USA): Hosting and analytics. Operates under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
• Google LLC (USA): Advertising via Google AdSense. Google acts as an independent data controller for advertising cookies. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
• Supabase, Inc. (USA): Authentication and game-save storage for the Colony Simulator — only if you sign in. Data is stored with row-level security so each account can only access its own save.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to how we handle data, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We will not make retroactive changes that reduce your rights without notification.
