What data we collect
Newsletter subscription
If you submit your email address via the newsletter form, that address is collected and used solely to send the newsletter you requested. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. We do not share email addresses with third parties.
Server logs
Like all websites, our hosting provider (Vercel, Inc., USA) automatically records basic access logs — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time of visit. These logs are retained for a short period for security and debugging purposes and are not used to build user profiles. Vercel's processing is governed by their Privacy Policy.
Analytics
If analytics are enabled, we use privacy-respecting tools that do not fingerprint individual users or share data with advertising networks. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymous.
Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Newsletter subscriptions — you explicitly opted in.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Server security logs — necessary to operate the site safely.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Non-essential cookies — only placed after you accept.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. We use only the cookies necessary to make the site function and remember your preferences.
Managing cookies
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage, or by using your browser settings to block or delete cookies. Refusing cookies does not affect access to the knowledge base — all content remains freely accessible.
Your rights (GDPR / Lei n.º 58/2019)
As a resident of the European Union (or under Portuguese data protection law), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to processing of your data
- Request that we restrict processing
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Lodge a complaint with the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados) at cnpd.pt
To exercise any of these rights, email contribute@rebuildthecivilization.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Third-party services
The site is hosted on Vercel, Inc. (USA), which may process technical data as part of the hosting service under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We do not embed third-party tracking pixels, social media widgets, or advertising scripts.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to how we handle data, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We will not make retroactive changes that reduce your rights without notification.
This policy applies to rebuildthecivilization.com only. Content linked from external sources is subject to those sources' own privacy policies. This policy is governed by Portuguese law and EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).
